Meet Troy
A Queer, Black therapist intern working with folks holding BIPOC, queer, neurodivergent, or other marginalized identities in Tennessee
Hello! I’m Troy (he/him). Do you struggle to work with your brain and not against it? Do you wrestle with holding together emotions, spiraling thoughts, and maintaining a sense of self while living in a world where things only seem to be getting worse? Maybe you are feeling lost while facing large and unexpected changes in your life or managing conflicts between your identities and your environment. Or perhaps, you are trying to navigate life with a chronic illness or disability.
I can relate.
I believe that therapy is a radical and vulnerable act of self-exploration, growth, and healing. I aim to create a safe space for your authentic self to feel accepted, heard, and validated. We all find ourselves navigating complex and unfair systems daily and we deserve to have someone journey with us through our struggles and our triumphs.
My journey as a Queer, Black man who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes as a teenager and ADHD as an adult has taught me that we are stronger than the challenges that confront us.
I love to help those living with ADHD, Autism and other forms of neurodiversity navigate a chaotic and sometimes unforgiving world. I also have a passion for working with folks living with chronic illness or disabilities build a life rooted in connection and meaning. I specialize in working with adults, adolescents, and children holding queer, BIPOC, neurodivergent, or other marginalized identities.
Helping to build and expand your sense of agency, inner peace, and self-love is at the core of my therapeutic space, in which you are the expert on your own life and experiences. I take an explorative approach that blends cognitive, mindfulness, narrative, somatic and expressive approaches.
As an intern at Healing Umbrella, I offer deep sliding scale rates, so I invite you to reach out through the link below to schedule our free 15-minute consultation. I am here to journey with you!
